New Research on Vitamin C Suggests Potential Role in Cancer Treatment
Recent studies have revisited the hypothesis proposed by Linus Pauling in the 1970s that high-dose vitamin C could slow cancer growth. While initial clinical trials using oral vitamin C showed no significant benefits, new research indicates that the method of delivery might be crucial. Intravenous administration of vitamin C allows for much higher concentrations in the bloodstream, potentially enabling it to act more like an experimental drug. Laboratory studies suggest that at these concentrations, vitamin C can generate hydrogen peroxide, selectively damaging cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. Early-stage clinical research hints that high-dose intravenous vitamin C, when used alongside chemotherapy, may reduce treatment-related side effects and improve patient quality of life. However, these findings are not yet confirmed in large, randomized controlled trials.
