Nepalese Education Consultancies Protest New Regulations Impacting Overseas Education
Nepal's Cabinet has introduced new regulations governing education consultancies, language teaching centers, and preparatory classes, replacing previous ministry guidelines. These regulations aim to improve oversight and transparency following fraud investigations. However, the Education Consultancy Association of Nepal (ECAN) argues that the regulations could make overseas education less accessible, particularly for lower- and middle-income families. The new rules include a mandatory security deposit, annual license renewals, and stricter requirements for consultancies. ECAN has submitted a proposal for amendments, seeking to replace the security deposit with an insurance-based system and extend license validity.
