32 Million in Northeast Under Tornado Watch Amid Severe Thunderstorm Threat
Severe thunderstorms are sweeping across the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, impacting major metropolitan areas along the Interstate 95 corridor. Over 32 million people in parts of Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Connecticut are under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. ET, as reported by the Storm Prediction Center. Cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Newark, and Bridgeport are included in the watch area. Damaging wind gusts exceeding 60 mph are the primary concern, with potential for hail, tornadoes, and flash flooding in areas experiencing multiple heavy storms. As of Tuesday evening, approximately 130,000 residents were without power. The storm system is expected to bring significant rainfall, which could overwhelm aging sewer systems in cities like New York, leading to localized flooding.
