GCI Acquires Quintillion to Enhance Alaska's Telecommunications Reliability
GCI Holdings, LLC, a subsidiary of GCI Liberty, Inc., has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Quintillion, a fiber infrastructure provider in Alaska. This acquisition will integrate Quintillion's existing 1,800 miles of subsea and terrestrial fiber with GCI's statewide network, along with 1,500 miles of planned fiber expansion. The merger aims to improve network reliability in Alaska, where telecommunications are vital for daily life, healthcare, education, and public safety. The combined network will feature a self-healing, ringed architecture that automatically reroutes traffic during disruptions, enhancing connectivity for remote communities. GCI will manage the unified network using its Alaska-based expertise in monitoring, maintenance, and restoration.
