Pew Research Survey Reveals Global Fear of AI-Driven Job Losses and Increased Inequality
A new global survey by Pew Research Center indicates widespread concern about artificial intelligence, particularly regarding its impact on employment and economic inequality. The survey, which polled 42,151 people across 37 countries, found that a majority in 34 of these countries believe AI will lead to job losses rather than create new ones over the next two decades. In the U.S., 71% of respondents share this concern. Additionally, a general sentiment exists that AI will widen the gap between the rich and the poor, a belief more prevalent in wealthier, left-leaning countries. Younger adults (18-34) are increasingly anxious about AI's impact on job loss and inequality, with concerns rising sharply in countries like the U.S. over the past year. Despite these fears, a global median of 41% reported feeling equally concerned and excited about AI's growing presence.
