Colorado Wildlife Officers Euthanize Bear After Camper Break-In Incident
In Boulder County, Colorado, wildlife officers have euthanized a bear that broke into a camper where a 57-year-old man was found unconscious. The incident occurred near Beaver Reservoir, where the bear entered the trailer after the man had suffered a pre-existing medical emergency. The bear's entry was marked by a door ripped off its hinges, with paw prints and scattered food inside. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) determined that the bear posed a public safety threat, as it pursued food despite human presence. CPW spokeswoman Kara Van Hoose emphasized the bear's acute sense of smell and hearing, which typically deters them from approaching humans. However, in this case, the bear's actions necessitated its removal under CPW policy.
