IRS Plans to Use AI to Enhance Workforce Training Efficiency
The IRS is exploring the use of artificial intelligence to accelerate the training of its workforce, particularly for new hires and employees temporarily reassigned to different roles. According to Ken Corbin, the IRS Taxpayer Services Chief, the agency's current training materials do not adequately reflect the digital proficiency of the incoming workforce. By integrating AI, the IRS aims to streamline training processes, potentially reducing the 14-week training period for new customer service representatives. This initiative is still in the proof-of-concept stage and has not yet been implemented. The IRS is also addressing staffing challenges, having reassigned 1,500 employees to Taxpayer Services and extending their details to manage workload effectively.
