East-Central Nebraska Farmer Reports Moderate Tar Spot Pressure in Corn
In Nebraska, disease pressure on corn crops has been reported as low to moderate, with tar spot being the most prevalent disease observed. According to Ryan Preister, a farmer in east-central Nebraska, the disease is currently staying below the ear leaf and has shown slight advancement over recent weeks. The USDA reports that 54% of Nebraska's corn is rated as good to excellent, while 57% of soybeans are in similar condition. Despite the presence of tar spot, the overall health of irrigated corn remains strong, although dryland crops are more vulnerable due to variable rainfall.
