Laramide Resources Evaluates $741 Million Value for Queensland Uranium Project Amid Mining Ban
Laramide Resources has released an updated study valuing its proposed Westmoreland uranium mine in Queensland, Australia, at approximately $741 million. This valuation nearly doubles the previous estimate from a decade ago, reflecting changes in market assumptions and project parameters. The study, which uses a 7.5% discount rate and a long-term uranium price of $90 per pound, projects a 33% internal rate of return and a payback period of about 2.5 years. Despite the promising financial outlook, the project faces significant hurdles due to a longstanding ban on uranium mining in Queensland. Laramide is prepared to file a mining lease application once permitted by the state government. The project is envisioned as an 11-year open-pit operation, processing 2.9 million tonnes of ore annually, with an average annual production of about 4.9 million pounds of uranium oxide.
