Egg Producers Settle Price-Fixing Allegations with 53 Million Egg Donation to Food Banks
A settlement has been reached involving major egg producers Cal-Maine, Versova, and Hickman’s Egg Ranch, following a multistate investigation led by the Department of Justice and supported by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The investigation found that these companies illegally coordinated to influence and fix egg prices, leading to overcharges for consumers. As part of the settlement, the companies will deliver 53 million eggs to food banks across the United States, including nearly 5 million eggs to New York and 280,000 to New York City. Additionally, the companies will pay $3.3 million to the government and implement new compliance measures to prevent future illegal coordination.
