London Police Officer Disciplined for Failing to Follow Sobriety Assessment Protocol at Collision Scene
A London, Kentucky police officer has been disciplined for violating departmental protocol regarding road collisions. The unnamed officer allowed an individual to leave the scene of a July collision without conducting an adequate sobriety assessment. An internal investigation confirmed that the mandatory safety procedures for assessing driver impairment were not followed. As a result, the officer received a three-day suspension without pay, was demoted from corporal to patrolperson, and is required to undergo mandatory retraining for sobriety assessment. City officials emphasized that while operational discretion is part of policing, it does not supersede mandatory safety procedures. In the interest of transparency, video and other related items to the incident are being released.
