Greece Announces Social Media Ban for Under-15s Starting 2027
Greece has announced a ban on children under 15 from accessing social media platforms, effective January 1, 2027. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made the announcement via TikTok, aiming to reach teenagers directly. The ban will be enforced through a state-mandated app installed on all personal devices, extending beyond social media to include protection from online gambling, alcohol and tobacco promotion, and explicit content. The decision follows a poll showing 80% of Greeks support the measure, and it aligns with previous actions like banning mobile phones in schools.
