Prince William Reportedly Sidelined from Key Succession Decision Affecting His Children
Prince William was reportedly not consulted on the Succession to the Crown Act 2013, a significant change to royal succession rules that directly impacts his children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. According to Valentine Low's new book, the late Queen Elizabeth and Buckingham Palace did not show great enthusiasm for the reform, which shifted from male-preference ascension to absolute primogeniture. This means birth order, regardless of gender, now determines succession for those born after October 2011. The change ensures that the eldest child inherits the throne. Low noted that Queen Elizabeth and then-Prince Charles felt 'ambushed' by the government regarding the matter, and Charles was particularly disappointed that William was not involved in the discussions. While the palace was not against the change, they insisted that the government secure the backing of the other 15 realms.
