Utah Father Killed by Lightning Strike While Jet Skiing Near Egmont Key
Steve Matheson, a father of four from Utah, tragically lost his life after being struck by lightning while jet skiing near Egmont Key, Florida, on Saturday. Matheson was visiting Florida for a conference and had joined his childhood friend, David Cole, for a day on the water. The weather shifted suddenly from sunny to stormy, prompting the pair to attempt a return to shore. While riding approximately 15 to 20 yards ahead of Cole, Matheson was struck directly by a lightning bolt. Despite immediate efforts by Cole and a passing boat captain to assist, Matheson succumbed to his injuries.
