Post-Menopausal Women Advised on Bone Density Maintenance Through Exercise and Nutrition
Post-menopausal women are encouraged to adopt specific standing routines and nutritional strategies to maintain bone density and overall health. Research indicates that a combination of resistance and aerobic exercises, coupled with adequate protein intake, is effective in reducing bone reabsorption, particularly during weight loss. Studies have shown that women over 65 who combined diet with resistance and aerobic exercise lost significantly less hip bone density (0.5%) over six months compared to those who only dieted (3%). For post-menopausal women, bone loss can accelerate due to estrogen decline, and weight loss can exacerbate this. Routines should incorporate brisk walks, strength training, and targeted exercises like standing hip abduction and resistance band movements.
