Extreme Heat Challenges in Nevada and Arizona Prompt Coordinated Response
Communities in Southern Nevada and Arizona are intensifying their efforts to combat extreme heat, which has become increasingly severe and prolonged. Las Vegas and Clark County are collaborating to enhance their response strategies, supported by a $750,000 grant from the Federal Highway Administration. This initiative is part of a broader regional effort, as cities like Phoenix have already established multi-agency networks to address heat-related challenges. The urgency of these measures is underscored by record-breaking temperatures in March, with Las Vegas and Phoenix experiencing highs of 99°F and 100°F, respectively, significantly above the 20th-century average. The extreme heat has led to more fatalities than traffic incidents in Southern Nevada, highlighting the critical need for effective heat management strategies.
