Hawaii Health Officials Issue Water Warnings Following Severe Storms
Hawaii is currently facing multiple brown water advisories across its islands due to the aftermath of a recent Kona Low storm. The Hawaii Department of Health Clean Water Branch has reported that heavy rainfall and runoff have contaminated coastal waters in several areas. This storm is the third of its kind in a month, exacerbating the already wet conditions from March. The advisories are in effect on multiple islands, including an island-wide warning on Kaua‘i, and affected areas on O‘ahu, Maui, and the Big Island. These warnings coincide with the spring travel season, a peak time for tourists visiting Hawaii's beaches. Health officials have cautioned that brown water conditions pose significant risks to swimmers and surfers, as runoff can carry harmful bacteria and debris into the ocean.
