Gen Z Delays Major Life Milestones Due to Rising Costs and Economic Pressures
A significant portion of Generation Z is postponing key life events such as buying homes, pursuing higher education, starting families, and getting married due to financial challenges. According to a survey by Northwestern Mutual, 72% of individuals aged 19 to 30 have delayed at least one major financial or life goal. The rising costs of housing and education are major factors, with the average monthly cost of a home nearly doubling over the past decade. Additionally, college tuition has seen substantial increases, further straining financial resources. Gen Z's approach to these delays is notably different from previous generations, viewing them as strategic decisions rather than setbacks. This generation is also more open about financial pressures, influenced by social media's portrayal of idealized lifestyles.
