Health Canada Approves Clinical Trial for Moderna's mRNA Ebola Vaccine Amidst Outbreak
Health Canada has authorized Moderna to conduct a Phase I clinical trial for an mRNA vaccine targeting the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, which is currently causing a significant outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This approval makes Canada the second country, after the U.K., to authorize such a trial. The trial will assess the immune response of participants to the vaccine, which does not involve injecting the virus itself. This development is part of a broader effort to address the lack of licensed vaccines for this particular strain of Ebola.
