FBI Questions Authenticity of Ransom Note in Nancy Guthrie Case Due to Currency Detail
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of 'Today' show co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since January 31, 2026. Her alleged kidnappers have demanded a $6 million ransom, to be paid in bitcoin, with deadlines set for February 4 and February 8. The ransom note, which was sent to multiple media outlets, specified payment in 'USD,' raising suspicions among FBI experts about the note's authenticity. Former FBI agent Michael Harrigan suggested that the use of 'USD' might indicate the sender is not based in the United States, potentially pointing to a scam. Despite the lack of proof that Nancy is alive or in the kidnappers' possession, her family has expressed willingness to pay the ransom. Law enforcement continues to investigate, including searching a septic tank on Nancy's property, but no new evidence has emerged.
