WTO to Host 'World Trade and Tech Day 2026' Focusing on AI and International Trade
The World Trade Organization (WTO) has announced it will host 'World Trade and Tech Day 2026' on September 14, under the theme 'AI and Trade: Turning Potential into Progress.' The event, to be held at the WTO's headquarters in Geneva, will explore the relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and international trade. The day's agenda includes a welcoming address by Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a ministerial dialogue on AI as a trade policy issue, and engagements with government officials and private-sector leaders, including representatives from large technology and transportation companies, as well as micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Panels will cover AI's role in reducing trade costs, supporting developing economies' participation in the AI value chain, enabling digital trade through services, promoting innovation via intellectual property, and the importance of standards. An exhibition and pitching session will also present case studies on AI's use in trade.
