China Expands Integrated Circuit Definition to Strengthen Chip IP Protections
China has revised its intellectual property regulations to broaden the definition of 'integrated circuits,' now including photonic and quantum elements. This change, highlighted by Guo He from Renmin University, reflects China's strategic shift to enhance IP protections for its semiconductor industry. The updated regulations aim to safeguard chip designs against infringement, supporting domestic companies like Alibaba and Huawei in their competition with U.S. firms. This move aligns with China's broader policy to foster high-quality development and global competitiveness in advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
