Lost Holocaust Music Revived in Asian Tour by Yiddish Glory
Anna Shternshis, a professor of Yiddish and Jewish studies, has taken the album 'Yiddish Glory: The Silenced Songs of World War II' on tour across Asia. The album features 15 songs collected by Moisei Beregovsky, a Soviet Jewish ethnomusicologist, who recorded Yiddish music from Jews in Ukraine after their liberation in 1944. These songs, nearly lost during Stalin's crackdown on Yiddish culture, were discovered in the 1990s. The tour included performances in Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Beijing, introducing audiences to the historical and cultural significance of these songs.
