Taylor Farms Criticizes Inspection Process Amid Cyclospora Outbreak Concerns
Taylor Farms, a U.S. produce supplier, has expressed dissatisfaction with the government's inspection process following a cyclospora outbreak linked to its lettuce sourced from Mexico. The outbreak has led to increased consumer anxiety about the safety of consuming lettuce, particularly from restaurants. The FDA has identified iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms' operations in central Mexico as a source of the outbreak, which has caused a spike in cyclosporiasis cases, an intestinal disease. In response, Taylor Farms has removed potentially affected products and temporarily halted production at its Mexican facility. The situation has prompted some retailers and restaurants to avoid produce from the region, fearing broader contamination. Additionally, Rep. Robert Garcia has initiated an inquiry into Taylor Farms' involvement in the outbreak and its interactions with the FDA.
