Alabama Lawmakers Push for Prosecution of Former Prison Healthcare Provider YesCare
State lawmakers in Alabama, Rep. Chris England and Sen. Bobby Singleton, are advocating for the prosecution of YesCare, the former healthcare provider for Alabama's prisons. The lawmakers are accusing YesCare of financial misconduct, specifically 'Aggravated Theft by Deception of Public Funds.' This accusation stems from an incident where YesCare allegedly requested an advance for two pay periods but only distributed one paycheck to employees, using the remaining funds for unspecified purposes. YesCare's contract, valued at $1 billion, was terminated in April 2026. The lawmakers are highlighting broader issues within Alabama's prison system, including allegations of violence and financial mismanagement. Birmingham-based NaphCare has since taken over the prison healthcare contract.
