Canada Allocates CA$10.6 Million for Nationwide EV Charging Infrastructure Expansion
Canada's federal government has announced a significant investment of CA$10.6 million (US$7.6 million) to fund 14 electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure projects across the country. This initiative aims to install over 1,600 new EV chargers nationwide, enhancing the accessibility and convenience of electric vehicle usage. The announcement was made by Parliamentary Secretary Karim Bardeesy at the EV & Charging Expo in Toronto, representing Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson. Additionally, Natural Resources Canada is providing CA$1.1 million (US$792,000) to extend Plug'n Drive's cross-country EV test drive tour, which was first launched in 2024. This tour is designed to reach smaller communities with lower EV adoption rates, offering residents the opportunity to test various EV models and receive guidance from EV specialists. The investment is part of Canada's broader Auto Strategy, which encompasses vehicle electrification, autonomous technologies, and battery supply chains.
