Poland's Border Fortification Efforts Fall Short of Promised Shield
Poland's efforts to build a 700-kilometer defensive shield along its borders with Russia and Belarus have resulted in only four short fortified zones, according to satellite imagery. The project, initiated in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, aimed to create a continuous line of fortifications. However, only 61 kilometers of defensive lines have been constructed, with linear fortifications accounting for about 10 kilometers. The visible defenses include anti-tank ditches and dragon's teeth, but they are fragmented and lack depth, raising concerns about their effectiveness in deterring potential threats.
