FAA Lifts Nationwide Ground Stop on American Airlines After IT Outage
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an advisory scaling back a nationwide ground stop on American Airlines flights following a systemwide IT outage. The outage disrupted operations across the airline's network, initially grounding flights nationwide. The FAA's revised advisory limited restrictions to Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina, one of American Airlines' major hubs. American Airlines reported that system connectivity has been fully restored, allowing flights to resume. However, incoming flights to Charlotte are experiencing significant delays due to congestion, with average delays increasing from 24 to 49 minutes. The airline has not disclosed the cause of the outage but has apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers.
