Cambridge to Pay 40 Residents $1,000 Each for Civic Assembly on ShotSpotter's Future
The city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, is launching its first-ever Civic Assembly, titled “Your Voice, Your Cambridge,” to gather resident recommendations on public safety and surveillance technology, specifically focusing on the controversial ShotSpotter gunshot detection system. Approximately 15,000 randomly selected Cambridge households will receive invitations to participate. One person aged 16 or older from each invited household can respond by September 27 to enter a lottery for one of 40 spots on the assembly. These 40 selected residents will receive a $1,000 stipend and will meet for four Saturdays between October and December.
