FIBA Hall of Famer Clarisse Machanguana Rebuilds Life After Mozambique Flooding
Clarisse Machanguana, a FIBA Hall of Famer and former WNBA player, is facing significant personal challenges following catastrophic flooding in Mozambique. Recently inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame, Machanguana is celebrated for her contributions to basketball and philanthropy. However, her home in Marracuene, Mozambique, was rendered uninhabitable due to severe flooding that has affected nearly 500,000 people. The flooding, exacerbated by heavy rains and overflowing rivers, has destroyed homes and farmland, leading to widespread displacement and food insecurity. Machanguana, who is currently staying with her brother, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to aid her relocation efforts. Despite these personal hardships, she continues her philanthropic work through the Clarisse Machanguana Foundation, focusing on empowering youth, particularly girls, in Mozambique.
