Howard County Woman Sentenced for $25K False Medicaid Claims
Falguni Patel, a 60-year-old woman from Howard County, Maryland, has been convicted and sentenced for submitting over $25,000 in false Medicaid claims. Patel falsely asserted that she was providing home healthcare services during periods when she was either working another job or was out of the country. HomeCentris Healthcare, LLC, formerly known as Personal Health Care, Inc., relied on Patel’s fraudulent statements when submitting claims to Maryland Medicaid. On August 3, Patel pleaded guilty to felony public health fraud. Judge Garret P. Glennon, Jr. of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County sentenced her to five years in prison, with all but time served suspended. She will also serve three years of supervised probation and is ordered to pay restitution of $25,310.51. Attorney General Anthony G. Brown emphasized that such fraudulent claims divert essential resources from Maryland residents who depend on home healthcare for their well-being and dignity.
