Western Sydney International Airport Launches Cargo Operations, Boosting Australia's Trade Capacity
Australia's Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport has officially opened its cargo precinct and commenced cargo operations as of July 27, 2026. This development marks a significant milestone in enhancing Australia's aviation logistics, trade, and biosecurity systems. The new airport provides a 33% increase in capacity for the country's aviation sector, supporting growth in trade and maintaining Australia's global competitiveness and economic resilience. The commencement of cargo operations is the result of extensive planning and collaboration between the airport, industry partners, and Commonwealth agencies. This included securing the airport's First Point of Entry determination and establishing the necessary workforce, systems, and operating model to deliver essential biosecurity and export regulatory services.
