U.S. Unveils 2026 Counterterrorism Strategy Targeting Diverse Threats
The United States has released its 2026 Counterterrorism Strategy, focusing on addressing a range of threats including narcoterrorists, legacy Islamist terrorists, and violent left-wing extremists. The strategy emphasizes eliminating political bias in counterterrorism efforts and prioritizes the rapid identification and neutralization of violent secular political groups. It also highlights the importance of preventing non-state actors from acquiring weapons of mass destruction. The strategy outlines regional approaches, dividing the world into five areas: the Western Hemisphere, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia, each with specific threats and strategies.
