Akron's Longest Table Event Fosters Community Connection Through Shared Meals
In Akron, Ohio, approximately 100 residents gathered at Lock 3 for the Longest Table event, a community potluck designed to foster connection and bridge divides through shared meals. The event, which originated in New York City in 2022, aims to bring together neighbors who might not otherwise meet. Local businesses, including Good Company Akron, contributed to the event by donating over 600 wings. The event was organized by Civic Saturday Akron, with the goal of addressing food insecurity and strengthening civic connections. Attendees, such as Vanessa Drone, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to meet neighbors and learn more about their community. Organizers hope the Longest Table will become a lasting tradition, using food to unite people.
