FAA Flags Safety Concerns Over Incorrectly Installed Seats on Boeing 737 Max Jets
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed mandatory inspections of passenger seats on 453 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft registered in the United States. This follows reports that some seat assemblies may have been installed incorrectly, posing potential safety risks. The FAA stated that improperly installed seat assemblies could disengage from the seat tracks during turbulence or an emergency landing, potentially injuring passengers and crew or blocking the aisle and delaying evacuation. The proposed airworthiness directive requires inspections and corrective work, which are expected to take about one hour per seat assembly. Boeing has expressed support for the FAA's decision to make these inspections mandatory.
