Jill Dando Initiative Expands to Inspire Young Journalists in Schools
The Good News Rooms project, inspired by the late TV journalist Jill Dando, aims to encourage a million children to become 'positive reporters' by 2030. This initiative, which began in Somerset in 2011, has recently expanded to Heron's Moor School in Weston-super-Mare, Dando's hometown. The project focuses on teaching children to report uplifting news stories, thereby enhancing their literacy, confidence, and media skills. Nigel Dando, Jill's brother, praised the project as a 'brilliant legacy' for his sister. A blue plaque is set to be unveiled at the Weston Mercury Building, where Jill Dando started her journalism career. The project has already reached 12 schools across the UK and even extended to Malawi, Africa.
