Arizona Seniors Struggle to Retire Due to Insufficient Social Security Benefits
Many seniors in Arizona are finding it difficult to retire comfortably due to inadequate Social Security benefits. Randy Jones, a 72-year-old Walmart greeter, exemplifies this struggle as he continues to work despite his age and health issues. Jones, who has worked for 63 years in various roles, relies on his job to supplement his Social Security income, which is insufficient to cover his living expenses. This situation is not unique to Jones; nearly 1 in 5 Americans aged 65 and older are still working, often out of necessity. Rising costs of living, including housing, utilities, and healthcare, are forcing seniors like Jones to remain in the workforce. Many seniors delay receiving Social Security benefits to increase their monthly payments, but even then, the payments often fall short of providing financial security.
