Senators Rounds and Klobuchar Introduce Bipartisan Ranch Act to Rebuild U.S. Cattle Herd
Senators Mike Rounds of South Dakota and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota have introduced the bipartisan Rebuilding America’s National Cow Herd, or Ranch Act. This legislation aims to establish a voluntary grassland restoration program, potentially making up to 20 million additional acres available for grazing. Senator Rounds described this proposal as an alternative approach to the administration's current strategies for addressing the nation's cattle supply. The initiative comes amidst broader efforts in Washington to tackle issues such as cattle supply, producer risk, and the long-term stability of the U.S. beef industry. The Ranch Act is being considered alongside other measures, including the USDA's Rancher’s First initiative, which offers a new insurance option to help ranchers protect the economic value of retaining heifers for breeding stock for up to two years.
