Physicists Achieve Record Quantum Entanglement Over 420 Kilometers
A team of physicists from the University of Science and Technology of China has set a new record for quantum entanglement over a distance of 420 kilometers using optical fiber. The experiment involved entangling quantum memories, represented by laser-cooled rubidium atoms, across this vast distance. The setup included two memory units, named Alice and Bob, connected by the optical fiber, with a node named Charlie detecting the entanglement. This achievement surpasses previous records and demonstrates the potential for long-distance quantum communication, a critical step towards developing a quantum internet.
