Hackers Exploit Vulnerability in Coldcard Wallets, Stealing Over $130 Million
Hackers have exploited a vulnerability in Coldcard hardware wallets, resulting in the theft of over $130 million in cryptocurrency. The flaw, identified in the wallet's seed phrase generation process, allowed hackers to predict and brute-force users' seed phrases. Despite Coldcard's reputation for security, the breach highlights a critical vulnerability in offline storage solutions. Affected users, like Jonathan Goodman, who lost $1.6 million, are advised to update their devices and migrate to new seed phrases. Coinkite, the wallet's manufacturer, has issued an advisory urging users to take immediate action.
