Bhutan Hosts Inaugural 'Conscious Food Summit' to Address Global Food System Challenges
Bhutan is hosting the world's first 'conscious food summit' in Paro, bringing together delegates from over 60 countries and the UN. The five-day event aims to address the broken global food system, which is under severe threat from climate-driven weather extremes, conflict, and geopolitical instability. Bhutan's Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, emphasized that transforming food systems requires both 'inner and outer change,' advocating for a spiritual relationship with food alongside economic fixes and intensive agriculture. The summit will promote regenerative practices, Indigenous knowledge, and conscious eating, focusing on cultivating compassion, empathy, resilience, and a stronger connection with nature. This approach seeks to articulate values that should shape food production and consumption, moving beyond treating food merely as a commodity.
