Mainstay Empowers Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities Through Innovative Support
Mainstay, a nonprofit organization, is providing significant support to individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism, enabling them to live more independently. Domonique 'Dom' Hatcher, a resident at one of Mainstay's facilities, benefits from a combination of in-person and remote support, allowing her to enjoy 16 hours of independence daily. The organization employs advanced technology, such as smart door handles and video doorbells, to tailor support to individual needs. Mainstay's approach is not to replace human interaction with technology but to enhance the independence of over 400 adults in the area. The organization emphasizes the importance of integrating individuals with intellectual disabilities into the community, challenging the misconception that they cannot live independently.
