Paraguay Reaffirms Diplomatic Ties with Taiwan Amid Chinese Pressure
Paraguay's President Santiago Peña has reaffirmed his country's diplomatic ties with Taiwan, emphasizing shared values such as democracy, freedom, and human rights. This statement comes after China urged Paraguay to sever its relations with Taiwan, as part of Beijing's ongoing campaign to isolate the island internationally. Paraguay remains the only South American country recognizing Taiwan, amidst increasing military and diplomatic pressure from China. During a bilateral meeting, Peña and Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te signed agreements, including one on artificial intelligence investment, further solidifying their partnership.
