Flash Floods in Bryce Canyon Strands 11 Hikers, Trails Closed
On 24 August 2026, Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah, USA, experienced sudden flash flooding due to a thunderstorm that brought up to 2 inches of rain. The National Weather Service issued a flash-flood warning at 2:43 PM MDT. The flooding affected popular trails such as Fairyland Loop, Navajo Loop, Queen’s Garden, and Peekaboo Loop, stranding 11 hikers. Rescue operations were conducted by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service, successfully evacuating all hikers. Two individuals were treated for hypothermia, while others were evaluated and released. The flooding also caused mudslides, rockfalls, and trail damage, leading to temporary closures of several trails.
