University of Hawaii Study Reveals Worsening Mental Health Among Lahaina Survivors
A recent study conducted by the University of Hawaii, as part of the Maui Wildfire Exposure Study (MauiWES), has highlighted a concerning decline in the mental health of Lahaina survivors, particularly among children. Despite progress in employment and housing stability, the study indicates that mental health issues persist due to ongoing insecurity, health concerns, and weakening social support. The research team has conducted over 4,000 appointments and screenings, providing mental health assessments and other health services to more than 2,500 participants. The study underscores the resilience of the affected individuals but also emphasizes the need for continued support and intervention to address the mental health challenges they face.
