Hong Kong's Labor Chief Clarifies Talent Acquisition Aims to Boost Economy, Not Replace Local Workforce
Hong Kong is actively pursuing global professionals to enhance its economic growth and create new job opportunities for local graduates. At the HK International Talents Career Expo, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han emphasized that the government's talent acquisition initiatives are not intended to replace the domestic workforce but to expand the city's economy. By attracting external expertise, the government aims to introduce new industrial sectors, thereby generating more job vacancies. Since launching a campaign to attract global professionals in late 2022, Hong Kong has been ranked first in Asia and fourth globally in talent competitiveness. The city's appeal is attributed to its institutional strengths, including the One Country Two Systems framework and its strategic position backed by mainland China.
