Horizon Organic Recalls 54,000 Cases of Chocolate Milk Due to Premature Spoilage Risk
Colorado-based Horizon Organic Dairy has initiated a voluntary recall of over 53,000 cases of 1% low-fat chocolate milk boxes. The recall, which began in early August, affects 53,760 cases of 8-fluid-ounce cartons sold in 12- and 18-count boxes. The company stated that a seal issue may cause the product packaging to appear bloated or leak, leading to premature spoilage. Kendra Harrison, Horizon Organic Dairy's head of quality and food safety, confirmed that the recall is not related to allergen, microorganism, or pathogen contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been notified, but as of August 31, it had not yet classified the recall. Horizon Organic Dairy has not received any reports of illnesses or hospitalizations linked to the recalled milk.
