Ammie Akin Secures GOP Nomination for Alabama's Redrawn 7th Congressional District, Eyes Democratic-Held Seat
Ammie Akin has won the Republican nomination for Alabama's Seventh Congressional District, securing 73.3% of the vote against David Perry. Akin, with 25 years of experience in Alabama's education system as a teacher, administrator, and college professor, is now setting her sights on a seat traditionally held by Democrats. The upcoming 2026 election will feature new congressional boundaries for District 7, which now include Washington, Monroe, and Conecuh Counties. These areas have historically shown stronger Republican performance compared to parts of the previous district. Akin's campaign believes these redrawn lines present a significant opportunity for the GOP to flip the seat. In the 2024 election, the Republican candidate faced an approximately 80,411-vote deficit against U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, but Akin's team argues this historical data is no longer relevant due to the geographical changes.
