BAE Systems Secures $146 Million Contract to Manufacture M776 Cannons for US Army
BAE Systems has been awarded a $146 million contract to manufacture M776 cannons, which serve as the primary armament for the US Army's M777 towed 155mm howitzer. This contract marks the establishment of a second source for the production of these cannons within the United States, aimed at accelerating artillery acquisition and enhancing the readiness and resilience of the US defense industrial base. The manufacturing will primarily occur at BAE Systems' facility in Louisville, Kentucky, which has recently undergone significant upgrades to increase its production capacity. These upgrades include advanced machining centers, improved heavy-lift cranes, expanded test and assembly capabilities, and enhanced welding equipment. BAE Systems plans to leverage its extensive experience in producing complex defense systems to meet the Army's requirements for the M776 program.
