Pokémon Card Stores in Japan Implement Facial Recognition to Enforce Purchasing Rules
The Pokémon Company has announced the implementation of facial recognition technology in its trading card stores in Japan. This measure aims to prevent customers from circumventing purchasing limits, a common issue due to the high demand for Pokémon cards. Previously, stores used methods like removing plastic film from booster boxes and quizzes to ensure buyers were genuine fans. The new system will alert staff if a customer attempts to enter the store multiple times in a day or receives more than one entry ticket. This initiative is part of efforts to maintain a fair shopping environment and prevent scalping.
